A Cold Creek Christmas Surprise The Cowboys of Cold Creek RaeAnne Thayne Books

Just finished reading RaeAnne's "A Cold Creek Christmas Surprise" and it was absolutely a wonderful story. Ridge Bowman having been rejected by his wife Melinda (who took off with another man and subsequently was killed in an accident), left him to be the single parent to their daughter Destry. He now finds himself in their huge ranch house all alone after his sister Caidy's wedding to Dr. Ben Caldwell, and Destry staying with Gabi, her cousin. The house is in absolute chaos following the wedding reception and Ridge presumes Caidy made arrangements for a house keeping service to bring some semblance of order to the house. As he answers the doorbell a delightful young lady, Sarah Whitmore is standing opposite him. He presumes she's from the cleaning service, invites her in, gives her instructions as to the cleaning agents she'll need and then proceeds to return to his office. He never confirmed that Sarah was in fact from the cleaning service and Sarah, for some reason or other, didn't tell him. Well, as she was descending the stairs, she took a bad tumble, arriving at the base of the stairs unconscious. As he heard the noise he rushed to the stairs to find Sarah. He immediately called for EMT assistance summoning his brother Taft (Pine Gulch Fire Chief) and Trace the (Pine Gulch Chief of Police). Having twin brothers in such convenient positions was somewhat comforting to him. Both arrived to find Sara going in and out of lucidity.
Sarah was taken to the clinic where she was evaluated by Dr. Dalton and subsequently had a cast applied to her broken arm. As per Dr. Dalton's instructs to Ridge, who insisted she stay at the River Bow the accident site, Sarah was taken back to the gorgeous ranch house. As she was falling in and out of consciousness, she wanted to tell Ridge the true reason why she presented herself at his doorstep, but the moment just didn't seem right. As she was recuperating during the week before Christmas, she was warmly accepted by Destry, his daughter, a truly delightful precocious young lady of 11-1/2. Sarah knew she needed to tell Ridge exactly why she came, but she couldn't tell him everything. She did tell him that she discovered an object d'art his mother painted of his sister Caidy whick has been missing for almost 12 years since the murder of Ridge's mother and father along with several other paintings. Sarah told Ridge she wanted to return the painting of Caidy to the Bowman family where she believed it truly belonged. Still, she was unable to tell him the very dark information she had regarding the circumstances of the murders - she new she had to, but, just couldn't find the opportune time.
RaeAnne develops a promising romance between Sarah and Ridge in a very lovingly warm manner. While she felt the same for Ridge, Sarah didn't want to permit herself to fall in love with him because she knew the moment she told him the dark secret of his parents' murders, he would definitely hate her with every fiber of his being. As she contemplated telling him, she decided to just leave unobtrusively during the night and would "dodge the bullet" as it were. Ridge and Destry insisted Sarah stay with them for Christmas as they all would gather with other Bowman family members. Even though she knew she should leave, she didn't want to disappoint Destry who was having her first Christmas without Caidy, her aunt, who basically raised her after Melinda Bowman - exited stage left!
Ridge knew there was something troubling Sarah and tried on several occasions to get her to talk about it, but she resisted. During their time alone in the great room of the River Bow, watching the snow falling, a roaring fire in the river rock fireplace and the absolutely gorgeous 18-foot Christmas tree all decorated with tons and tons of twinkle lights, they both knew they were beginning to feel something special for each other.
Christmas with the Bowman family was a great time with plenty of great company, excellent food, happy children and of course gifts. But, yet Sarah knew she had to leave so as not to incur the wrath of Ridge when she told him the dark secret. She decided to steal away from the River Bow during the night of December 25-26. Before she left, Sarah finally told Ridge "the" dark secret regarding his parents' murders. Ridge was so taken aback by the news he gladly helped her leave, throwing her suit case in the trunk of her car, but, being the typical gentlemen, still helped her into her car.
After he displayed a really belligerent attitude, Trace and Taft had a brotherly talk with him and learned all about Sarah and her dark message. After all the circumstances were reviewed by the twins to Ridge, he decided to go after her and to bring her back to River Bow.
The dark secret was astounding to say the least - after twelve years of private investigators delving into the murders and dead-ends, the truth finally emerged.
The end of this book is very heart warming and while not necessarily plausible, certainly not completely impossible. While some readers may find this read lacking in depth, I truly enjoy RaeAnne's descriptions of the Teton mountains, the trails and the magnificent details of the snow storms in that geographic locale. While reading about Ridge and Sarah sitting in the great room and enjoying each others company, you can almost taste the hot chocolate their enjoying while sitting in front of a blazing fire place looking out the window to a roaring snow storm. For me, this is a really great read while delivering mystery, romance and a resolution to warm the heart. I absolutely love this author's writing; it's clean, her characters are life-like, her story line is plausible and most of all deliciously enjoyable. Read, "Cold Creek Christmas Surprise", I don't think you will be disappointed.

A Cold Creek Christmas Surprise The Cowboys of Cold Creek RaeAnne Thayne Books Reviews

You could pick up this book and read it out of order, without knowing any of the history of the family, and still enjoy the book on it's own, but this is definitely a book that is enhanced with a bit of background knowledge.

I love the holiday season and the coziness of the setting (a nice, warm ranch house in the middle of a snow storm). The love story is sweet and develops quickly, but not without several bumps in the road. Thayne makes you believe that the characters really could fall in love in the course of a week. (And really, when it's right, it's right, who needs tons of time?)

This book is perfect for cozying up by a warm fire with a cup of cocoa on a cold winter's night.

Content Some mostly mild language, and some mention of lovemaking but no descriptions and
there is no insinuations that the characters sleep together at any point in the book.
This story has been nourishment to my soul. As a Christian, I really appreciated the love of this family and their love for the scriptures, recognizing the importance the Bible plays in our lives. The characters in this story and in those others in the "Cowboys of Cold Creek Series" is " my cup of tea".
This was a heartwarming story, that just left me smiling, and happy. I loved the cast of characters in this sweet story. The story even had a three legged dog named tripod that weaved its way into my heart.

Ridge bowman had been a single dad raising his daughter Destry. His sister, and twin brothers always played a huge part in making Destry feel cherished. I loved Destry's energy in this book. She was a pre teen, and very animated. She also had a huge heart, and cared for other people. Her mother left when she was little, and then died. The Bowman family was big, and always surrounded her with love. I love books with big happy families. Ridge and his sister and brothers had a happy childhood that kept them close. When Caidy, the youngest of the four, was 16 someone killed their parents. The questions surrounding the murder, and theft had haunted them all for years. I love the suspense in this story.

Sarah was taking care of her father's affairs after he passed away. She found something, and wanted to talk to the Bowman family. She flew to the small town, and rented a car to drive out to the ranch. When she rang the door bell, Ridge thought she was there to clean the house. That weekend his little sister had gotten married, and the house was a disaster. He just assumed his sister had hired someone from the cleaning service. He really didn't give Sarah an opportunity to say why she was there. She thought if she helped him clean the house, then she would sit down and talk to him. Before that happened, she had a accident, and feel down the stairs. She had a concussion, and a broken arm. Ridge found out she was all alone, and she didn't have anyone to call. He took it upon himself to take her back to his house, after she was released from the hospital.

This is just one of those stories you have to read. I loved the pages that talked about them sitting around the fire, as the snow storm howled outside, while they sipped on raspberry hot chocolate. I've never had raspberry hot chocolate before, but after reading this book, I think I will buy some. It sounds good.
An first grade teacher finds paintings stolen from a murdered family. She decides that she needs to return them, herself, because she believes her brother and, maybe, her father were involved in the theft and murder.

What she finds is a loving wonderful family who love each other deeply, an 11 year old girl and a life she had always dreamed of. Through an accident, she is brought into their lives and cannot bring herself to tell them about her father and brother.
This story is about her feelings and longing and fears and the man she meets and how they get past her family's history.

Interesting fun story with lots of details about life on a ranch and living in a small community that takes care of each other.
