Francis was overwhelmed with the responsibilities of becoming Lord Catesby following his father’s unexpected death. When his older sister tells him her husband is mistreating her, he refuses to take her seriously. However, when his friend, Thomas Markham, comes to help Francis, he reads the letter Emily gave to her brother from her husband and is appalled. He offers to go rescue Emily and falls deeply in love with her. However, care must be taken to get her from the clutches of her husband.This story could have been very good, but I had trouble getting around the fact that Emily and Thomas embrace, kiss passionately, and declare their love for each other over and over while Emily is still married in what is labeled a Christian book. And they fell in love awfully quickly. Other errors include “father in law’s” for “father-in-law’s,” “alright” for “all right,” and an omniscient POV (“What he did not see was Victor , watching him…”). I generously gave it 3.5 stars, which rounded up to a four.

A nice clean romantic story. Poor Emily married a terrible husband who beat and berated his wife. Since divorce was not open to her she had little to hope of ever getting away from her terrifying husband. The story is a bit predictable, but in the end the story has a happy outcome.
It's a very quick, fairly sweet read. I can't call it light because the abuse of one's romantic partner is an abomination, especially when the one being abused has no recourse to escape. I didn't feel like there was quite enough story for me to fully connect with the characters. The ending is as expected; the only way for Lady Emily to escape and keep her good reputation. It's well written and a good escape for an hour or so.
I really enjoyed this story. It is a very quick read. Emily is in a horrible marriage with a wicked abusive man. When her father suddenly dies and her husband refuses to go with her to mourn, she approaches her newly titled brother for help. With all the stress of taking over the estate, her brother assumes she's just being overly dramatic. When his friend arrives to help him navigate and finds a letter from the wicked husband, Emily's brother realizes he's made a grave mistake. His friend agrees to help save Emily. With a few stumbles along the way, everything works out as it should.
This is a clean quick read that I would recommend to anyone.

Great quick read. There was an element of menace from an abusive husband, and some heart-pounding moments as Emily tried to escape aided by her brother and his friend, but overall the story was a heart-warming tribute to the love of family, friends, and good samaritans. Thomas did not start out intending to steal Emily away for his own purposes, but rather set out to rescue her from an abusive situation, then love blossomed. The romance moved rapidly, but I did not find it so startling that a woman starved for love and kindness would fall so quickly for a kind man who risked himself to save her. I look forward to reading the next book.
